Good value for logs

I was looking for some kiln dried logs and found Hillside. I ordered the bulk bag of kiln dried hardwood logs. The multi-bag saving was automatically applied which was nice. It definitely felt like I got a good deal compared to other places I checked. The delivery took about 4 days to get to me in Bristol.

Decent logs, delivery a bit slow

I ordered a bulk bag of kiln dried birch logs. The logs themselves were really good quality, burned clean and hot, just as advertised. They were definitely 'ready to burn' certified, which is important for me. The pricing was competitive, especially with the bulk discount. However, delivery took a full week to reach my place in Kent. The tracking info was a little sparse too, so I wasn't always sure where my order was. Customer service was polite when I called, but it would be better if the delivery window was tighter.

Got some ash logs

Needed some more wood for the fire pit so I tried Hillside Woodfuels. Grabbed a bulk bag of their kiln dried ash logs. They got here pretty quick, like within five days, and burned really well. My mates and I had a decent bonfire going that night. No fuss, just good logs.

Does anyone know if these guys do any sort of discount codes? Or is it all just bulk buy stuff?

W Wendy 2 months ago
I signed up for their newsletter ages ago and I've gotten a couple of codes for like 10% off before. But yeah, the multi-bag deals are usually the best savings.

Mostly bulk savings from what I've seen. Like if you buy a few bags it just automatically knocks some off. I think they might do Black Friday deals though.

What's the deal with the delivery time for these guys? Need some logs pretty quick for a weekend thing, I'm in Cardiff.

S Sophie 2 months ago
I'm in Bristol and it took about 3-4 days last time I ordered a bulk bag. Might be quicker for Cardiff since it's closer to Swansea.

They're usually pretty good, not Amazon fast but I've never waited more than a week. I think they say it's like 2-5 business days generally. Depends if you hit them during a busy spell though.

Do they do returns if you accidentally order too much or something? What's the policy like?

D Derek 2 months ago
I haven't returned logs myself, but I once had an issue with a bag of kindling and they sorted it out really quickly, no fuss. I'd imagine their returns are similar.

I've not done a full return, but they're usually pretty decent with customer service from my experience. If it's unopened, I reckon they'd take it back, maybe minus some shipping cost.

Can you actually pick up an order from their Swansea place? Would save on delivery if I can.

T Todd Hughes 1 month ago
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can. I live near there and I've seen people loading up vans from their depot. Probably best to call them first though.

AFAIK, yes you can. I think they mention it on their site. Good shout if you're local.

Thinking of getting a bunch of logs for winter. How does Hillside Woodfuels compare to Log Direct or White Horse Energy? Better quality or just cheaper?

D Dan Hughes 1 month ago
I switched from White Horse to Hillside last year. Hillside's logs seem a bit more consistent in size and burn hotter for longer, less ash too. Worth the slight price difference for me.

I've used both Hillside and Log Direct. Hillside's packaging for the barrow bags was sturdier for me, and the wood just felt 'cleaner' if that makes sense. Both good though.
